AFGHANISTAN is located within Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East. it shares the border with IRAN in the south and west, PAKISTAN in the south and east, TURKMENISTAN, UZBEKISTAN and TAJIKISTAN in the north, and CHINA in the far northeast.

Can anyone recommend a good book about the general history and culture of Afghanistan?

My husband is deploying soon and I want to learn more about where he is going. I don’t really want a "textbook" like book. Just something informative and interesting. Thanks!

Afghanistan: A military history from Alexander the Great to the fall of the Taliban (this is an awesome book and a great read, he will enjoy it)

Ghost Wars by Steve Coll was also a great read-this talks about the evolution of the taliban and so forth. You start reading it and you can’t put it down.

Those are the two I would suggest.

Which region did the taliban own when they ruled Afghanistan? And where can I find a map or it?

They controlled All of Afghanistan,not just part of it.For years they had a good old time showing how great a Country can be when all of it’s laws are derived from the Quran.Like blowing up centuries old works of art because they were from another Religious Group,beheading people,amputating limbs,stoning women,and on and on.A regular Islamic Utopia.

what are the major historical events of Afghanistan starting from 1500 - 2009. if possible can you please include links with it too. thank you.
it is not a tricky plot to make any one do my homework.

i am currently working on a school project and wanted to know what other people think are important historical events, so that i can create an accurate presentation and not just things off my heart.

bare in mind that this is part of my research and will be included in my bibliography.

Afghanistan History is currently written by US Agenda, as it has been for the last 25 years. Look up Charlie Wilson and you will find more.

Tribal: stayed within their boundaries.

Foreign Policy: USSR/US interventionism created the Mujaheddin turned Taliban turned Al-Qaeda, currently found world wide.

Not allowed to listen to music…?

Okay so here is my problem. =\

My mom says that I can’t listen to Music. I mostly listen to Japanese songs from anime and such as I like them a lot. I know most of them a bit by heart and today, my mom said ‘Why are you listening to those songs? You’re an Afghan! Listen to those songs.’

It’s not gonna help much talking to her as most of the time she stays by what she says UNLESS someone else tells it to her. Right now I’m just listening by MP3. She doesn’t want me to listen to music unless it’s Afghan. >_>

Sure I like Afghan music, but I like other kind of songs much better.
Any help please?
